Overview
We're seeking a dynamic and creative individual to play a critical role in the planning and implementation of our conservation projects.
Reporting to the Conservation Director, Conservation Officer are responsible for overseeing a range of initiatives, including tree planting, wildlife monitoring, and habitat restoration.
This role will directly contribute towards the logistical and biodiversity project planning for establishing multiple tree planting sites in Ontario, requiring knowledge of: GIS mapping, tree planting and habitat restoration (biology/biodiversity/forestry conservation), and wildlife conservation (biology) in Ontario, Canada.

Duties
[1] Project Management & Fieldwork:
- Plan, coordinate, and manage conservation projects such as tree planting, wildlife monitoring, and habitat restoration, including hands-on conservation work, data collection and monitoring.
- Assist with establishing short- and long-term plans for management of forest lands and forest resources.
- Provide technical support on tree improvement, seed orchard operations, insect and diseases surveys or experimental forestry and forest engineering research (as needed).
- Assist with developing plans for tree seedling production and woodlands nursery operations (as needed).
[2] Partnerships & Stakeholder Relations:
- Develop and maintain relationships with key partners, including local organizations, governmental bodies, and community groups, and assist with establishing partnership for youth projects and long-term viability of tree planting sites.
[3] Community Outreach & Recruitment:
- Lead efforts to engage the local community in our conservation activities, including organizing and assisting with one urban tree planting event in the fall and preparing for additional events in Spring 2025.
- Assist with expanding and managing our community network to broaden our outreach and impact and cultivate relationships with passionate individuals from diverse backgrounds.
- Assist in creating educational promotional content that aligns with our conservation goals.
[4] Reporting:
- Provide regular updates and reports to the Conservation Director on project progress and outcomes.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a related field is preferred (communication, marketing, social science, humanities, environmental science, etc.).
- Previous experience with GIS, knowledge of local ecosystems, and certifications in conservation are preferred.
- Proficient knowledge or understanding of current environmental issues, biodiversity/wildlife and human-animal relations, and climate change
- Excellent research, analytical, evaluation, and reporting skills with experience in project planning and development - this can include academic knowledge gained through coursework, practical experience gained through employment/volunteer work, or a combination of the two
- Strong project management and organizational skills.
- Experience in creative design and online community engagement.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for effective community outreach and stakeholder engagement.
- Passion for wildlife conservation and environmental sustainability.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team and independently.
- Demonstrated ability to work respectfully and effectively on a diverse team with a variety of people from different cultures and sub-cultures, and regions.
- Availability to work on Saturday mornings and occasional evenings.
- Experience in workshop development and delivery is a plus.
- Previous involvement in youth programs or community outreach activities is an asset.
