The Arborist Groundsperson will report directly to the Coordinator, Forestry and will support the Forestry Operations team and assist with program delivery through the safe and effective operation of Forestry related equipment.
- Support the delivery of a Hazard Tree Management program on Conservation Halton lands, including the delivery of hazard tree removals across all Conservation Halton properties
- Assist with program delivery through hazard tree management, tree pruning, tree planting, site preparation mowing, brushing and trail improvements, safe worksite setup and cleanup.
- Operate equipment such as tractors, associated attachments, including skidding winch, stump grinder, turf mowers (Ventrac), CVOR trucks and trailers, gas/battery powered chainsaw, string trimmers, brush saws, motorized pole pruner, brush chipper, all terrain vehicles, and hand tools related to the care and maintenance of trees
- Perform vehicle and equipment circle checks, complete required daily inspection books, conduct pre and post operational inspections of assigned equipment and vehicles
- Promote safety. Perform duties and ensure that team members and volunteers work in accordance with Conservation Halton’s policies, safety procedures, and the Occupational Health and Safety Act, and applicable Regulations
- Other related duties assigned by the Coordinator, Forestry as appropriate to the position
The Arborist Groundsperson may possess a related diploma (Forestry, Horticulture, Arboriculture etc.), and/or has demonstrated a minimum of three (3) years related work experience, coupled with the following:
- Experience with equipment operation and maintenance, as per the equipment noted above
- Knowledge and demonstrated experience operating CVOR vehicles
- Certified Chainsaw Operator required
- Directional tree felling experience
- Experience working with brush chippers
- Strong communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment, providing support to other Conservation Halton departments
- Demonstrated ability to work on remote work sites and in a variety of outdoor conditions
- Effective time management and organizational skills
- Demonstrated flexibility and adaptability skills
- A valid Ontario Drivers Licence, minimum Class “G” with a satisfactory Driver’s Abstract is required. *Abstract completed by Conservation Halton.
